Statistics is disappointing. I mean...I knew it was going to be easy...but I still had higher expectations for the class. In the first lecture, the professor went over the difference between mean, median, and mode and forms of averages. I felt like I was going back to elementary school. Was is this bad at NT? -.-
Today, we had to discuss units. The units on the y-axis of a histogram is percent per (insert unit of x-axis), such as years, or packs of cigarettes, or...miles. He had to explain how percent per minute was analogous to miles per hour. He calls the blocks "buildings". Mrrow -.- I don't understand how talking about one kind of graph could take so long...3 hours? or 4? Total. I'm nearly falling asleep, and this is math! My roommate is taking Discreet/Calc/Stats (It's called calc for bio majors), and the math major next door is taking MV/LinAlg...and I'm stuck with stats. Why can't I take something like...Algebraic Topography (which sounds soooo cool)????
I'm actually letting my iPod play in one ear so I don't fall asleep. Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff and Owl City actually work.
Now he's explaining the difference between discreet and continous units. For example (he didn't say this, but wouldn't this be easier?), discreet units are like # of children in a family. You can't have 1.24 children. But any measure of time can be divided infinitely, and the same with distance. We're talking more about this after the break. How long do you need to talk about this one point?
