I'll be the first to tell you that my GPA at Berkeley last year isn't great, but I guess I also had to hear it from my dad. I want to go to grad school and get a PhD in a few years, so my gpa is really important, and I only have 2 years to bring it back up. I tried to tell my dad that this semester will be better. I'll be in biology classes (my major) and they won't be as difficult as organic chemistry, the class for which I got my worst grade last semester. Berkeley requires that we complete organic chemistry before we take biology, so next semester is my introduction to biology class. I hear a lot about this class, because it's difficult but primarily because the demographic is mostly pre-medical students, who are known for being competitive, even to the point of sabotage. I've taken biology twice in high school, at the honors and at the AP level, and I've been reading the book over the summer. But that's what worries my dad.
"You don't need to study. You know the material, and I'm not worried that it'll be hard for you. I'm worried that you'll find it easy and get bored, and when you're bored, you're careless. Especially in a competitive class. Be careful."
And two quotes that I find inspiring right now :)
"I tried my best, but that's no excuse" - Taichi
"You have to do the things you don't want to do before you can do the things you truly want to do."
