A Day Like Any Other

Today is a day like any other.
The sun shines and the wind blows.
But on today, my little sister and I
Can skip down the hill
And run errands together,
And I can show her all of the things
I love so much about Berkeley campus.

Today is a day like any other.
My room is no neater, the bathroom no cleaner
But the clutter on the floor
Consists of half-packed boxes,
And suitcases, and laundry.
And my mother is here to bemoan the fact
That as a student my apartment is necessarily disgusting.

Today is a day like any other.
It's full of endings and new beginnings.
But it's not every day, that you put on a black gown,
A cap and a tassel,
Walk across the stage,
Shake the hand of your Dean,
And receive a scroll that says
"Thank you for attending commencement."

Today is a day like any other,
Filled with new people and new places.
But in a week I will be gone.
Berkeley won't be my home anymore.
I don't know when I will be back.
I'll be leaving the places and people I love,
And taking my experiences and memories with me,
Stepping out to take on the world.

It just goes to show what amazing things can happen
on a day like any other.
