Take computer games. A few days ago I convinced myself that if I don't procrastinate at all, I'll be able to take a practice GRE after lab, play for a little bit as a reward, and then go to a dance class. But it was 5:30 by the time I finished the test, and then I had to eat dinner because the class was at 7 (can't dance right after you eat), and even though I didn't spend time cooking, I didn't finish dinner until about 6:30. I couldn't play as I ate because its not a one-handed kind of game. By then, I only had 20 minutes and the game had to load and I had to go.
There are only so many hours in a day.
But in other ways, this is also not a misconception at all. Every year, I take on more responsibilities, and I've survived so far. My first year at Berkeley I had a heavy course load and weekly dance classes, which became biweekly class and a day of teaching, and research in top of just as heavy a workload. Next year looks to be even busier. Why is it that I'll have time to run a dance class, three hours a week, but can't find time for a hour of games?
Apparently I just value the work more.
