Chocolate

11-29-10 7:44PM

A truth: When we cry, give us chocolate. True?

I remember in freshman year, on the very first math team meet, Anna was feeling depressed. I pulled out a piece of dark chocolate (I forgot why I had it, now) and said "Expecto Patronum!"

I think it's the cocoa in chocolate that makes you feel better, not the sugar. I think cocoa releases dopamine in your brain. Sugar would have just made her hyper. Dark chocolate is the best for healing from dementor attacks.

In this case today, there was already so much dopamine in my system, that the chocolate really wasn't necessary. It's just good to have when you're smiling through your tears. In case you were wondering, it was Dove's "Bliss".

Real bliss doesn't come from chocolate. It comes from certainty; it comes from knowing you are loved; it comes from knowing that your goal is worth working for, though it won't be easy. It comes from knowing that you are more ready today than you were last week or last month.
