11-3-10 9:30PM In Kindergarten, a year made up a fifth of my life. That's a long time, considering I only have memories from three of those years. As I grew up, the years became shorter. 1/6, then 1/7, now 1/17 of my life. Maybe it also speaks to the fact that I enjoy every one of those years, and time flies when you're having fun. Now I'm in the last year of the past 12 years of mandatory education, and I plan on entering at least 4 more years of voluntary education (why would anyone do that?) and probably at least 2 more years of graduate school to get a masters as well. Six more years of life spent in school.
By the time I graduate with my masters degree, I'll be at least 24 years old. Those six years will have taken up a fourth of my life. If they are six years well spent and enjoyed to the full, they'll be six quick years. If not, they'll drag on forever. I plan on enjoying them, and you should, too.
One fourth of my life - that's the same length of a year when I was four years old. Life goes on; no part of life is ever longer than another temporally. They are only marked by memory after they pass. I can already say that memories of this year will always be close to my heart, and so this year will pass quickly, but will be a lot longer than you'd think.
