Growing up, fast

11-21-10 7:43 PM

This summer, while I was away at Teen Camp, I hear from my parents that Lisa grew up really fast. She assumed the role I had temporarily vacated - the Big Sister. She took good care of Jenny, showing much more patience than she ever does when I'm at home. The moment I got back, she reverted to her normal state (the one that uses the least energy, of course -.-). It's kind of disappointing that she will not be mature when she's not pressed to be, but it's good to know that it's in her potential. After all, when I leave next year, she'll be the oldest. It's a comfort that she'll still be taking care of Jenny, and that she's growing up.

I didn't expect to be here when she grew up.

Tonight, though, during dinner, she exhibited her maturity. Having someone to take care of does mature you. I know - with two little sisters, 7 and 12 years younger than me, I often take the position of "Mom". Unfortunately, I don't have the natural authority of an actual mother; there's only so much I can do with them. They still treat me as their second mother. In fact, I've gotten so used to it, I act like that around my peers, too. Pear and Simon, in particular, call me "Mom".

It'll take Lisa a while, but I think she'll take up my mantle handsomely.
