What does music do?

11-5-10 6:27AM Concerts are about the adrenaline.

Up to and through the dress rehearsal, general opinion was that we didn't sound very good. We're the symphony orchestra, so of course we're skilled, but compared to previous years, there has rather been a decrease in talent. There was especially that one trumpet entrance in the Chadwick...that even during the concert I crossed my fingers for.

Well, whether it was practice, or Mr. Rosheger yelling at them, or my fingers, it worked. They were there, together, and relatively in tune. Enough that the audience, at the very least, would have no idea.

That post-concert feeling is great. You're wiped out and yet there's a mix of "that's finally over," "we did a great job; that really paid off," and what remains of that rush. We're going to hear our concert in class soon, and we'll laugh at the camera, give ovations to the soloists, and generally concede that we didn't think we could do it, but it sounds great (or it did on stage). Concerts bring the orchestra together better, I think, than any amount of rehearsal. Now we know what we can do.

I'm so proud of what we pulled off last night. We have the potential to do great things, and knowing that feels good.
